2014 Quarterback to Keep an Eye On

One possible future quarterback for the Panthers has suddenly come into play.  He's only a sophomore, but he's already 6'3" 215 pounds, has a strong arm, and is very athletic.  He also has already been at Elite 11 tryouts and is considered one of the top 2014 quarterbacks in the west, and many think he will eventually develop into one of the best in the country.  This season, his first as a starter, he threw for 2,168 yards, with 27 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Normally a kid this good, and who currently lives in Palo Alto, CA, is not somebody that would usually consider Pitt.  But here's the catch.  The kid's name is Keller Chryst, and he just happens to be Paul Chryst's nephew.  Keller's father, Geep, is currently the quarterbacks coach for Jim Harbaugh at San Francisco.  That's why Keller is currently on the west coast.

  1. Um, why would he come here when the greatd Voytik is committed?

    Stanford will land him.

BTW, was it me or did Chryst have trouble putting two sentences together in his presser?

  2. Doke,

Take one: Keller Chryst or Kincaide?

  3. I'd like to see you deliver an hour speech in front of a roomful of people. You'd be mumbling and twitching like a shy little boy.

  4. Chris:

Any word on how the current recruits are reacting to the hire (both commits and some of the remaining prospects you highlighted in an earlier blog post?

  5. The current commits have been extremely happy with the choice as have many of the prospects.

Don't know on Keller or Kincaide yet. Long way away. The camp and combine circuit this spring and summer will go a long way in determining that.

  6. Coach Chryst performed very well at his introduction. It may not be something that he enjoys doing, but he handled it well.

Should Geep join Pitt's coaching staff, where will Keller end up then? If he comes to Pitt and redshirts, Voytik will be ready to either enter the NFL draft early or stick around for the final year of a successful college career before going on to the NFL. Keller could end up either starting after his redshirt year or easing into the starting role backing up Voytik for a year.

  8. To the anonymous poster who thought Chryst did poorly in the Presser: Yes, it was you.

  10. Anonymous, are you really shy, or don't you know how to select a screen name? (smile)

I'm neither 14 or 40, ha! But I've been both, once upon a time. (I was ~40 when Mike Gundy made his epic rant, and I never bothered to change it.

BTW, I hadn't commented a peep to this post. Why did you ask?

  11. Really hoping this new staff does something that previous staffs have not...make recruiting and building the offensive line a priority. this area still produces a lot of them so take advantage!
