New defensive backs coach is Matt House

Paul Chryst's second addition to his staff today is Matt House who spent the last three seasons with the Rams as the defensive quality control coach.  Prior to that, House spent a season with the Carolina Panthers  as a special teams assistant, two years as the defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator at Buffalo, under Turner Gill, and for one season at Gardner-Webb as the defensive line coach.  Prior to that he was a defensive back assistant at North Carolina and a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Michigan State.  He is a native of Harrison, MI.

  1. Chris, what kind of recruiting connections does House have? It seems like most of his experience is in the NFL. Of course, that doesnt mean that he cant recruit but other than rudolph and huxtable it doesnt seem like this staff has much experience in that category.

  2. It's impossible to say how good, or bad, these young coaches will be in recruiting. Greg Gattuso and Jeff Hafley were very good recruiters and nobody could have known that ahead of time. Curtis Bray is somebody you would think would be a good recruiter and he wasn't. So you just never know. We'll all have to find out together.

  3. Haha, ok. Chryst seems confident that they will help recruiting-wise. He says that theyre already at pitt and will be working "to finish the recruiting class strong"

  4. Dokish can u stop writing about Pitt football the season is over Pitt hoops just had their worst performance in fifty years and no article or anything?

  5. I'll write something about it when I have something to say. Right now all that comes out is "Pitt basketball sucks". When I have more I'll write it.

  7. I'll write about it. Right now I'm just accumulating info about what's going wrong. It's obviously not just talent. Rutgers is not 23 points better than Pitt. Clearly there's something deeper.

  8. Chris,
The PSU AD indicated today that he was all in favor of making the Pitt-PSU game an annual event. If he is sincere then wouldn't the backyard brawl be dead ? It is assumed Pitt will have 3 non-conference games each year in the ACC and PSU and ND would be ahead of WV. The third game would have to be a MAC team ?

  9. I'm all for making the backyard brawl dead no matter what. I don't see what it's in it for Pitt. As for a series with PSU, I'd like to see it but I'm not holding my breath.

  10. Chris,

In response to the poster who asked you not to write about Pitt football during basketball season, count me as someone who wants information about Pitt football anytime there's something to write about, regardless of season.

  11. All for renewing the Penn State game as an annual event at the cost of even the annual Notre Dame game. Once we are in the ACC I cannot see Pitt playing both Notre Dame and Penn State annually. As for the annual Backyard Brawl, I agree it has no merit for Pitt and everything for WVU especially in terms of Western PA recruiting.

  12. John,
I don't want to continue the WV series because of the conduct of their fans. I travel all over the country to watch Pitt play, I live less than an hour from Morganhole and will not attend the game for concern for my safety and families as well as damage to my car. I experienced both back in the early 90s and have not been back since.

  13. I would just rather have out of conference games where we can get exposure for recruiting. There are not a lot of excellent players in West Virginia. On the other hand, playing in Pittsburgh really helps WVU in recruiting.

  14. I would really like to see us renew the rivalry with Penn State on an annual basis and continue the one with Notre Dame. These are two schools we have a lot of history with and similar cultures to ours. I see no benefit to keeping wvu on the schedule.
