New RB coach Eddie Faulkner

Paul Chryst has added another coach to his staff and the coach in question, Eddie Faulkner, was once a running back at, you guessed it, Wisconsin.  With the Badgers, Faulkner was a four year letterman, mostly backing up legendary Ron Dayne.

This past season Faulkner was the running back coach at Northern Illinois under first year coach Dave Doeren who was the defensive coordinator at Wisconsin until taking the Northern Illinois job.  Before that he was the offensive coordinator at Ball State for two seasons until a coaching change cost him his job.

A native of Muncie, IN, Faulkner is 34 years old and has most of his recruiting contacts in the Big 10 region.

  1. I like this hire way, way more than I like the Todd Rice hire.

    1. Coach Faulkner was at Ball State under Brady Hoke, and they had a very good offense with one of the leading rushers in the nation in 2008 when he was OC. This seems like a real good hire.

  2. Chris, so im assuming that because of his age he'll be a good recruiter. Is this a fair assumption or is it too early in his career to tell?

  3. You can't assume that he'll be a good recruiter just because of his age, but I think he will be a pretty good recruiter. It's going to be hard to recruit out of Big 10 region, though, because those kids want to play in the Big 10.

  4. Chris, I didn't see any post about the debacle that was the Pitt hoops game last night. Are you just too disgusted to put a post up? I know I was/am. Thanks.

  5. I was on the road right after the game and I assumed that by the time I could write anything, half the fans already were so mad for so long that they no longer wanted to talk about it.

    2. that was a total debacle of a game. i felt bad for those that paid good money to watch that mess in person. the way they played was bad enough then you had the pitt players chirpin' at each other.

  6. Chris - any guesses as to who will finally fill out the rest of the class for Pitt? I am thinking there may be some surprises. I say this only because I am sure the new staff had connections with kids who were not on the prior staff's radar.

  7. I agree, I'm not sure what good it does to add someone with experience recruiting B10(+2) country. Might as well have a California or Argentina recruiter, we'll land about the same number.

Who does Pitt have on staff that can reasonably expect to recruit successfully in either Florida or Texas?

If nobody, is it safe to assume we'll add someone like that in the remaining hires?

  8. I think they'll be a kid or two we haven't previously had on the radar. I think Cox and Rippy seem to want to go elsewhere but you never know.

  9. Huxtable has recruited in Florida a lot, but I'm guessing there will be a WR coach, or somebody like that, who will have Florida connections, too.
