Panthers add another local player

Paul Chryst got a verbal commitment today from Clairton cornerback Titus Howard.  Howard is a very good athlete and has good height at 6'2" and 165 pounds.  His other offers were from UConn, Toledo, Youngstown State, Arkansas State, and St. Francis (PA).

  1. ...and once again, the offer sheet is not impressive. At all. Competing against St. Francis? Really?

Chryst better get the big boys in PA or it's gonna be ugly. You may be able to eek out 9 wins, maybe 10, by coaching lower-tier guys up....but that's not what Pitt fans want. We want 11+ wins and actual reasons to be excited.

    1. No, im pretty damn sure most pitt fans would take 9/10 wins consistantly.

    2. Not true that is about where Wanny was and Pitt fans weren't satisfied.

    3. I want Top 25 year in and year out...
      9 wins should do it

but, with the players Chryst is recruiting... it ain't going to happen.

Note to Chryst... Pitt is moving to the ACC... not the MAC.

    5. Wanny's teams averaged 9 wins the last three years. Which was not good enough.

    6. 9, 10, 8 wins (I know Wanny didn't coach the bowl game, I'm counting it) so that's 27 wins over three years.

    1. I doubt it, though he could always go to Penn State. It wouldn't be an amazing shocker. But he isn't even giving any interviews after visiting Penn State today. He wants to go home and talk it over with his family.

    2. That could be good or bad for pitt.

    3. Would be a heartbreaker if he went to psu

  3. Good student, too. Hopefully Howard has a strong senior season.

  4. Howard is NOT BCS D1 quality...
    165#... C'mon man!!
Pitt doesn't play in the Wpial group A.

albeit Clairton is a good football program... I have yet to find a player out of Clairton that became a starter on a BCS D1 team.

It seems the big man on campus on Group A level HS play does not convert to starters on BCS D1.

    1. He'll get bigger. The kid isn't even a senior in HS yet.

Stop busting on these kids being too light. They're KIDS. He wont grow into his frame for awhile yet.

    2. C'mon Quake, everyone knows that a junior in high school that only weighs 165 pounds cannot be a good college football player 5 years later. It's impossible. Kids don't typically gain much weigh from age 16 to 23.

    1. Pretty sure I saw you. Was you that guy whose head was sticking out from under the bleachers yelling, "he only ran a 11.8 in the 100!!!!"

  6. Glad to see that we got another defensive player. I noticed that according to Scout.com that the SEC is the only conference to date that has commitments from more defensive recruits than offense. Maybe they know something like "defense wins championships".

  7. By the way, for what it's worth, 247 Sports is saying that Penn State is now leading for Dorian Johnson. IF Chryst ends up losing him then I can see the critics starting to come out more, and rightfully so.

  8. Of course a 247 PSU site will say Nitters are leading for Johnson. I agree, if Chryst loses Johnson then criticism is definitely warranted.

  9. Woohoo! Go Chryst go! Way to recruit MAC players, while the big-timers go elsewhere! YOU ARE AWESOME, MR. BORING!

This is laughable. Steve Pederson once again hires someone not even remotely capable of handling the job.

  10. It's official.

Great job Mr. Boring. Keep adding MAC level recruits. Pitt will end up like BC in the ACC at this pace.
