Panthers land Challingsworth

In one of the biggest non-surprises of the recruiting season, South Fayette wide receiver Zach Challingworth has committed to the Panthers.  The underrated 6'2" 185 pounder has good size and speed, and he's been very productive at the high school level.  Originally Challingsworth committed to Toledo but he changed his mind after being offered by the Panthers staff this week.  Other offers included Temple, Akron, Buffalo, Ohio, and Kent State.

  1. Can someone verify Challingsworth's track times so we can better determine whether our coaches know how to recruit better than the guy from the Jersey Shore?

    1. Pitt now has 6 commits, 4 good recruits, 1 cery good recruit, 1 unknown. Ill take that at this point. Dorian johnson and travon chapman are deciding soon so if pitt lands those two this class will be off to a very good start, especially considering what has happened with pitts coaches.

    2. Couldn't agree more. It's been a great start due to the circumstances surrounding the coaching carousel and "not" winning big games. I envision this class being very solid. Let's hope. -Gordo

    3. No track or combine times on Challingsworth.
It is not uncommon for athletes not to attend combines as they may hurt their recruiting. Translation, they are not that fast. Don't know regarding Challingsworth... and I don't go by what is listed in rivals, scout or twitter.
Yes... for wr.... you want speed and quickness. Both are equally important...
As far as current 6 recruits...
      Very Good - Orndoff
      Good - Parrish, Soto
      Project - Reese (Good size)
      Special Teams - Challingsworth, Harper

Pitt has 18 offers to give this year (my count)...

    4. Dude, no football player that doesn't also run track can possibly be a good player. So this kid must not be able to run routes, catch passes, or get open.

  2. Mac bound players and tight ends, wow this guy can recruit.

    1. Tight ends are kinda necessary in a pro style offense... Juuust a little

    2. Oddly, Wisconsin always seem to have a (white)WR who was under-recruited or a walk-on. They all seem to tear up the B1G. Who wouldn't want a Jared Abbrederis on their team.

    3. Gotta give Chryst credit...
he is beating Toledo and Kent State in the recruiting game!!!
Watch out Akron and Buffalo... we have your number!!

    4. I agree with Anony. We are beating the likes of Temple, Akron and Toledo for players! Is Pitt going to the MAC instead of the ACC???? Ignorance is the naive thinking that these coaches will automatically "coach-up" these recruits.

    5. Many excellent Pitt classes has had some kids with MAC level offers. That in itself is not a problem. If, for instance, Pitt gets three WRs in this class and they are Foster, Boyd, and Challingsworth, then that's a great group and Challingsworth is a nice sleeper to go with two excellent players. On the other hand, if all three WRs they get are this same level than it's a problem.

    6. Do you realize how many great players pitts had with offers like this or worse? Dion lewis only had offers from frickin miami ohio and tulane. If the entire class is filled with this then i will be very disappointed and thats unacceptable but until it is get off chrysts back

  3. James Starks
    Antonio Brown
    Joe Staley
    Kevin Walter
    Josh Cribbs
    James Harrison
    Michael Turner
    Ryan Diem
    Raheem Brock
    Muhammed Wilkerson
    Jaiquawn Jarrett
    Lance Moore
    Nick Kaczur
    Greg Jennings
    Jason Babin
    Tony Scheffler and...
    Ben Roethlisberger

All played in the MAC. You think any of them could have excelled at Pitt?

From right here in WPA, Bruce Gradkowski was a pretty good MAC player. In fact, I think I recall him leading Toledo to a victory over a pretty strong Pitt team.

How about Barry Church? Think he would have made a difference in Pitt's secondary?

Finally, Check Wisconsin's recruiting rankings vs. Pitt's the last several years. They have played in 2 straight Rose Bowls while Pitt has played in 2 straight BBVA Compass Bowls. Given the choice, I think I'll take Wisconsin's recruiting/bowl results thank you.

    1. You'd call the team Gradkowski beat "pretty strong?" Are you nuts? They were Larry Fitzgerald and a bunch of bums. That team was terrible and was only saved from losing 9+ games because Fitz was the best player in the world that year.

    2. I have seen a lot of really silly things written on anonymous blogs over the years...but "Larry Fitzgerald and a bunch of bums" might be one of the dopiest comments I'ver ever seen. That 2003 squad was ranked #9 when we went into the Glass Bowl, had 6 players drafted that April alone, and by my count had 16 players sign contracts and play in the NFL.

      Please stop with the hyperbole.

  4. Chris, supposedly pitt has some big visitors today. Who?

  5. Joe D will only be happy when Pitt lands the bio engineered hybrids of all the NFL's greatest players, and only if they ran track in highschool with world class times and even then only if they had offers from other major programs like Alabama and then only if they can bench 225 20+ times and then only if they aren't lazy.. and then only if they go to a big high school that plays good competition and makes the state playoffs... and then he's not going to believe they're committed until signing day.. and then they're going to turn out to be busts anyway so it doesn't matter... and then their career had inflated numbers because of the poor competition that Pitt plays clearly meaning that they won't make it in the NFL.

    1. Also they can't play in the WPIAL because its overrated and weak. They have to be from Florida. And he also heard from his fathers brothers hairdressers second cousin that none of these Bio Engineered Supermen like to watch film so they're clearly all not mentally ready for the college game.. and they're too stupid to qualify academically anyway so none of them will get in. I mean their SAT scores were only an average of 1540. Thats TERRIBLE! The nerds. They clearly spend way too much time studying and not enough on the field.

    2. His unhappiness has nothing to with Pitt, recruiting, Chryst, etc. So people are just unhappy with how their lives turned out, so they vent.

  6. Very positive blog. Nice to see that Pitt really gets it on the recruiting front. Some of us were really put off by the naysayers. To trash this distinguished university, is unfathomable to me.

  7. Chances of landing Foster have increased...
Michigan is up to 21 commits...
Alabama is up to 18 commits...
If they fill up the class before US Army game... it will look good for Pitt to land Foster. Things are looking up!!

  8. Joe D,
You don't follow recruting that much do you. If Foster wants to go to any school (including Michigan or Bama) there will be a spot availble for him. Schools don't turn top players down because of that.

Also, what does the US Army game have to do with anything? Foster is playing in the Under Armour game.
