Penn State linebacker visiting Pitt

Penn State linebacker Mike Hull is on the Pitt campus today and is looking to possibly transfer to the university.

Hull, who played at Canon McMillan HS, was one of the top recruited linebackers nationally in the 2010 class, but has yet to make a major impact for Penn State.  After a redshirt season, which Hull used to add weight, the 6'0" 225 pounder had 18 tackles in his redshirt freshman season.

In the spring, Hull impressed Penn State coaches with his improvement, especially his blitzing skills. He was a backup this spring to the excellent Gerald Hodges, but the Nittany Lions staff and players, including Hodges, predicted that Hull was going to break out this season.  The transfer would come as a bit of a surprise as his father also played at Penn State.

  1. It is a position of need. If he is good enough to play at Pitt, by all means he should compete and embrace the opportunity to actually make a difference and go to a bowl and to have a possibility of winning a championship. He won't get that where he is at and neither will the rest of the PSU team. You go to college to play for championships and that just won't happen at PSU.

  2. Chris

Is it true that QB Paul Jones was visiting as well?

What are the chances of Pitt landing Hull?

    Thanks

    1. It would surprise me if Jones transfered..
he was named 2nd string after Spring.
I do see Bolden leaving.. he wanted to leave last year and Paterno wouldn't sign off.. he father even went to talk with Paterno.

As for Hull... if he transfered to Pitt, he would probably still be 2nd string this year and start next year.. same situation he is in at PSU.

  3. Awfully presumptuous of you Joe. They come in and compete. Whoever wins, plays. Pitt needs help at most positions. If we can upgrade, I am all for it. You are funny Joe. Hull was a 5 star according to scout when he came out and only you could annoint him as a backup. Good grief....Now, I am not saying he should start as I would leave that to the Coach. Same with any other player that might be interested. No appointing, just competition.

  5. Did Pitt initiate first with Mike Hull or was it his doing?

  6. Tell him to bring some D-lineman... we have no depth at that position. Pitt moved some players to D-line just to have some bodies for practice purposes.

  9. Chris, assuming Hull would play the Sam, who do you think would be ahead of him?

  10. Jody, you will be happy to hear that PSU added a "zero star" middle linebacker yesterday with offers from Robert Morris, Adams State College, Wofford and Colorado State-Pueblo Campus. I am hopeful he takes the place of Mike Hull. Any word on the weekend visitors Chris? Time is of the essence for if they don't switch before camp, they will end up playing at PSU with a "no bowl" at the end of the season.

    1. I think you'll see this week where the PSU transfers will go. They just lost one today to NC State.

    2. Stating the obvious but I think Redd is out, Bolden bolts, Paul Jones needs a fresh start and Mike Hull. Wouldn't be surprised if some OL or DL think twice.

      The statue already transferred......

Where are the parents? Hackenberg quoted as saying he didn't read the Freeh Report and believes whatever Obrien tells him about that situation!! What? Helloooo, parents step in already. The cult continues and that is scary.
