Panthers land WR

Cranford (NJ) HS athlete Reggie Green has committed to the Panthers.  While he played mostly at quarterback in high school, he could play safety, wide receiver, or even linebacker someday thanks to his 6'3" 200 pound size.  He seems like his best fit may be at safety, and many of the schools who recruited him at that position, but apparently the Panthers are going to try him first at wide receiver.  He is long and has very good speed (best of 11.25 in the 100m).  Other offers included Temple, Michigan State, NC State, Rutgers, Boston College, and Central Florida.

NJ has 5 classifications now... ridiculous..
but Cranford is Group 3 in North Jersey...
Don't know about him to comment... based upon measurables, I don't see him as WR... perhaps LB or S.

    1. He's still probably faster than Shanahan :-). Maybe he's being groomed as his replacement.

  2. What do you think Chris? A 3 star prospect he's got high end attributes like you said size and speed. I think Corey Clement stays he's enrolling early gives him 3 months to figure out where he's going this with a football season and finishing up high school.

Whose next? I wouldn't expect Dojo and Foster until November early December.

    1. He's obviously more of a Plan B kid because he's raw and will be new to the position, but he's got great size and very good speed. If the Panthers can land their elite WR in Foster than Green and Challingsworth will look even better.

    2. Yeah I agree. Next years wideout options Street, Mannaseh Garner, Challingsworth, Green, and probably (hopefully, praying) Foster. A lot of size and speed. We will need it to with Shanahan, Saddler, and Brison leaving. Would leave us with Street, Garner, Jones, and a few other small guys. Only so many Steve Smith's in the world.

  3. Pitt now has 18 verbals...
they ONLY have 16 scholarships to give...
Looks like they may hit 22 players for 2013...

Question is... who is going to leave... who is going to be asked to leave.
Looks like 6 players need to be cut to make room for incoming class.
Chryst may also not give the scholarship for 2013/14 year to those walkons that he gave this year. He need to give out the scholarships due to Title ?... balancing boys and girls scholarships for all sports.

    1. I wouldn't worry about it. Room will be made, the Davis twins I have a feeling will be gone. Others will not make it because of grades, discipline, and people who don't match up with the program like how Lloyd Carrington did earlier this year. All recruits will have room.

  4. Hi Doke,

Do you know who took the lead to recruit him? Looks like we have at least some presence in New Jersey for recruiting, which is reassuring.

    Thanks!

  5. Boy, Chryst is just so lousy of a recruiter.

By the way, don't know if it was already noted here but Corey Clement has had a 400 plus yard game this year with 7 TDs.

    1. How in the world does landing a 3 star WR mean Chryst is a great recruiter? At best, as of now, he may prove to be a guy who can find gems who fit his system like Jamie Dixon did at the beginning of his Pitt career. But as it stands now, there are six ACC teams who are recruiting better on paper so it's not like Chryst is bringing in some juggernaut class. I'm not trying being a downer, I'm just giving you some reality since you seem to be the ying to Joe D's yang.

    2. Chris,

First of all where does it say that I used the word "great" to describe Chryst as a recruiter?

He may very well turn out to be great. What seems apparent is that at the least Chryst and his staff already have shown themselves to be far better recruiters than the incompetents you and some others were so certain of just a few weeks ago.

My advice then and even earlier before the season began was simply to hold on until everyone has a chance to see the product Chryst puts on the field.

Not every kid once to play for a big raw-raw guy or the typical hard ass. To a lot of recruits, their parents and coaches, a low-key guy like Chryst who they can trust might look like a better option.

My guess is that with a win against Syracuse (which I am concerned about) and a BIG WIN against Louisville, Chryst's phone is going to start ringing as some more of the gems and even some of the bigger name holdouts start phoning it in.

    3. And, where did Chris use the word "incompetent" to describe Chryst as a recruiter?

      Delete
    4. In fact, I said MANY times that I expect Chryst to do as well as Walt Harris and Dave Wannstedt, which was pretty good. That's why I have to call people on this "see, he's not such a bad recruiter" garbage. First of all, I never said he was bad, and secondly, this recruiting class would be the 7th best class in the ACC so let's not act like it's some special class.

    5. I agree... I'm the YANG....

This kid is a 2star by rivals and 3star by Scout.
NJ football is not that great... there are some decent schools... ie. Timber Creek, Don Bosco, etc. that know how to develop players.

My concern... where is the BEEF...
Pitt is in serious need for DL and OL..
Getting another DB type in my opinion is a waste...

    6. Its yin and yang, not ying and yang... and in the concept, there is no moderator. The two forces are complementary and balance one another. But lets not let details get in the way of a good rebuttal, haha!

    7. 247 sports has Green 3 stars as well. He had some good offers Mich St, NC ST. He's got the tools. He's also only 20 min away from Al Rasheed Benton 4 star linebacker who has Pitt in his top 3. Maybe some recruiting getting done by recruits. Green says he talked to alot of our other guys so he may help in this regard.

    8. Chris,

Any decent recruiting class at this juncture is "special."

The final analysis will depend on how Pitt performs the rest of the season.

My point has been since before the season that how well Chryst recruits will have everything to do with the product he and his staff put on the field.

Seems right now recruits are buying into the future and Chryst seeing how they're still on board despite YSU and Cincy.

    9. Mr. Moody,

You're right that I was wrong about Chris using the word "incompetent."

      My bad.

However, based on some of your prior comments about Chryst, incompetent would have been a compliment.

  6. I like it, good size, could turn into a player. You cant teach size and speed for sure. And those were some good teams we won over in terms of recruiting.

  7. I don't know why people expect better recruiting from Chryst. We were a big east team who hasn't been to a BCS bowl since 2005, where we got killed!, and have had 4 head coaches in 3 years. Personally, I am thrilled at the way he has been recruiting. Why do you expect better? We aren't going to get better recruits until we show that we have a stable program. Also, I will say 7th in the ACC is special, given all of Pitts baggage and everything that Pitt has been through.

    1. Like I said many times before, schools had better excuses that Pitt to fail in recruiting and they succeeded. A great recruiter can recruit, period. I'm not saying Chryst won't be a great recruiter, I'm just saying that people who say he's been doing a great job because he got a bunch of 3 star players are not being honest. The truth is, the jury is still out on how well he will do. They got a much better start for the upcoming class so we'll see how they do.

    2. Yeah but I don't even think he is close to failing. Pitt is probably going to be a top 40 class this year and that is with all the turmoil of previous years (potentially top 30 if Foster and Johnson come). Maybe I am being overly optimistic but I only see recruiting getting better each year as the team stabilizes and Chryst is able to make deeper and more long term connections with recruits.

  8. Green is a good kid with talent, it's a good chance you will have. Hopefully the good work with Pathers.

  10. Alabama coming to Central Valley this Friday, but not Saban, Nick is sending the linebacker coach WTF!! Who does he think he is Joe Paterno??? Urban still hounding for Foster. Chryst and Mark Ingram were both on CV's side line last Friday!

I knew Whitehead had Rutgers offer didn't realize he had the Pitt offer already!

    1. If Mark Ingram was there then somebody better alert the authorities because he's supposed to be in prison. You meant Bobby Engram of course.

  11. It was actually the wide receiver coach Groh. He supposedly going to Blackhawk to check out Kincaide too.

  12. Lance Thompson (Alabama assistant head coach) at CV game tonight. Foster and Whitehead didn't disappoint at all!

  13. I've seen Pitt games like this before. New coach, Same outcome. I thought PC was supposed to be a gameday coach. How and the hell do you lose that many yards when your in FG range. Then the defense cant get a stop. Disappointing.
