Panthers offer Keller Chryst

Keller Chryst, of Palo Alto (CA) HS, is one of the best quarterbacks in the nation for the 2014 class.  He is the son of Geep Chryst, the 49ers quarterback coach, and the nephew of Paul Chryst.  The 6'4" 225 Chryst also has offers from USC and Stanford.

  1. Wow!! I say wow because I'm not sure if my uncle could persuade me to leave California to come here to play football!!!

    I guess it's worth a shot!!!

  2. Now this is great news Chris.

You have to think a discussion was had with Uncle Paul that would suggest Keller is seriously considering coming to Pitt.

  3. I would think if chryst committs that would push kincade out. Chryst would be a much better qb

  4. I wonder why it took the staff so long to offer considering the personal relationship with the kid.

    1. It's only been made public now. I'm thinking Keller, Geep, and Paul all knew there was an offer long ago.

  5. Now, what I would like to see is Kincaid not flinch and keep to his commitment.

That would make a huge statement about his reported natural leadership abilities and self confidence when it comes to competing.

I realize that's not normally how it goes... and the full-court press would be put on by other schools trying to pursuade him to come their way.

But with Chapman, Kincaid and Chryst all in the fold... how much fun would that be to watch?

  6. A little of topic but I have been wondering something about Robert Foster. I've seen during his all star game he posted a few tweets about missing home or something along those lines. Then during the national title game he never posted anything. So my question is how much is regreting his decision and how much is Pitt or Coach Engram talking to him?

    1. Nobody knows but I know Pitt is still recruiting him hard.

    2. When I was the bowl game, some recruiting pundits, just some regular guys who have a passion for recruiting think Foster is a soft verbal. Who knows, maybe he comes back through Engrans efforts.

  7. Chris - if you were to guess what percentage chanced does Pitt have of landing him. I wonder why the kid has so few offers listed on recruiting sites? The same recruiting pages have him as one of if not the number one QB in the 2014 class.

    1. Offers can't even be official until February so he'll have more. More pure quarterbacks don't get a lot of offers, though. It's more the quality with quarterbacks.

As for the chances, it's impossible to say. Can't go wrong at USC or Stanford, but at the same time for all we know he loves Paul and wants to be coached by him.

  8. Thanks for the reply Chris , your one of the best. If Keller does commit to Pitt and so does Kincade, I see a log jam at QB. would there then be transfers of one of the Qbs or position changes?

    1. They both won't commit. I would guess that Chryst would go to Stanford and Kincade to Pitt. If the long shot comes in and Chryst commits to Pitt then I assume Kincade will move on. It's a good problem to have.

  9. Chris, do you think if for whatever reason chryst does shoose pitt that would cause a rift between pitt and the other local recruits? i thought kincade was friends with all the kids from the beaver falls area

    1. don't think they'd pull kincaides schollie
nor do I think there would be an issue, it is family, and highly touted family at that
be different if his nephew was a bum, or if there was no connection
again, both can committee, it's just not likely

  10. It's a numbers game. Pitt first needed Chapman in the fold before announcing the KChryst offer so as not to scare him off. KChryst is super talented and a great insurance policy should Kincade decide to look closer at MSU. It also elevates Pitt on the national stage during the 2014 recruiting process. At a minimum, Pitt remains relative as a top 5 QB keeps them on his short list and a top 15 already verbals. Makes Pitt look strong! He helps out his uncle by doing this and depending on how things fall out with Kincade, he might actually matriculate.

  11. Its funny to listen to these comments about QBs who are afraid to compete for the right to compete. I'm not saying anyone's wrong, its just funny.
