Great day for Pitt athletics

Not only did the basketball team play great in beating Syracuse, but the atmosphere was great for the Pitt football prospects who were raving about their visits.  Shai McKenzie, for one, tweeted that he is bonding quickly with Pitt already.  Some also pleasant surprises were that one of the best CB prospects in the country, Troy Vincent, Jr. of Maryland, made the trip, as did two elite in-state '15 prospects, Bishop McDevitt RB Andre Robinson and Central Valley CB Jordan Whitehead.

The basketball team did great, the fans were great, and the football prospects were loving their visit.  Can't have a better day than that and it's about time that the university had some great news on the sports front.

U are right it was a ball at the Pete today. Adams is making slow by steady progress. With about six minutes to go he made a beautiful behind the back type lay up that made me turn to my buddy and say "that was very dejaun Blairish" beautiful. Can wright hit a big three at the end of the shot clock with about 12 minutes left and Duran Johnson hit another with about seven minutes left. Great great game that springs us into the big dance in march...

  2. Pens are even winning big at home.

This was as big a team effort that Ihave ever seen -- you can pick any one of the 10 and remember a key contribution he made.

  3. One more thing. it seems every game when cam wright checks in I am thinking "what is he doing in there?" Then by the end of the game I feel like running over to apologize to him for doubting him because. He has played a solid game...

    1. Boyd having a change of heart is old news at this point. The mere fact he took to trip to WVU tells you he's not solid on his decision to go to Pitt.

Not to mention Tennessee which has its own kind of draw altogether.

Now if you're talking someone else other than Boyd, then that would be news.

If you all recall, Foster was trying to get OSU to bring in Whitehead!! best of buddies...

I've always said, Pitt needs to land either Foster or Boyd.
Foster has made his decision after careful thought... and he is much more talented than Boyd and played AAA.
Boyd never played WR so he is a project and everyone hopes his athletic ability make him the WR people think he can be.
Too much drama with these 2... geesh..

As far as the football recruits, I'm ignoring every rumor, hearsay, and idle chatter until LOI day. I'll believe it when the names are signed on the dotted line. Until then, it's all just speculation.

  14. Chris - just a question about the rules. Just for sake of discussion, if Foster was at the game yesterday on Pitts tab, that would be an unofficial visit unless I'm mistaken. How many of those can a kid take to the same school and does it matter if they've already had an official visit to the same place.

    4. Yet in spite of the forums saying this, the head of that site, Peak, is saying that Boyd is expected to remain committed to PITT ---

THAT is fact. According to what you've said, Boyd having "attending WVU" is the definition of hearsay, and would not be admissible in a court of law

    5. Oh... court of law..
what is a fact is Boyd has written on his facebook..
      attending WVU...
      he visited WVU...
based upon the evidence, a reasonable jury would conclude that Boyd will select WVU.

What I think will happen... Boyd will not sign on Wednesday... since it is a 3 for 1 deal.
He will let Webb and Howard sign... maybe Pitt... maybe Toledo. If they sign Pitt, Chryst can't pull offer... therefore, allowing Boyd to sign wherever as the golden handcuffs would be off so to say.

    1. You hit the nail right on the head, all this trash talk on Boyd is ridiculous. People for get this is how recruiting works, it's a shady business. Just look at Saban, Meyer, and Graham. These kids get pulled in a billion directions and then they get blasted if they don't go to the school everyone wants them to. The players are not innocent in all this too, they have been praised since the started playing football on how good they are. They get all what they want. That's how they get in trouble in college. The Pitt fans talking trash on Boyd is not helping him choose Pitt, it's doing the opposite. Leave that type of class to the idiots at Tennessee and West Virginia.

      Delete
    2. Fwiw, according to Rivals, Boyd has gone from a solid to soft verbal with Pitt.

And, Tennessee is the only other school in the running right now - fingers crossed.

      Delete
    3. Anonymous,

I was speaking more about all the speculation about where the players are going, than about the criticism of Boyd.

There are people who claim to have inside info, but we have no idea how much credibility (if any) the claim has. Also, folks try and discern a player's intentions based on their social media. Why don't we just wait until tomorrow and see what the player's intentions truly are?

As far as Boyd, he should be free to go to whatever school is best for him. The criticism he's received has been about how he's gone about choosing.

The best decisions are made when you have all the information in front of you. I believe what he should've done is visit all the schools he's interested in, then made a decision, instead of announcing Pitt before he'd made all his visits. That's why I believe he said he was confused, because he visited WVU after choosing Pitt. Anybody would feel that way when you made a choice without all the info you needed to make an educated, informed decision.

If you're going to make preseason predictions, you shouldn't keep changing it as the season goes along. That's like making a prediction on a game, then changing it as the game progresses.

Predict once, then live with it. Of course how Pitt plays the reast of the season will determine how they end up. That's pretty much how things work.

    4. Doesn't the AP and USA Today... and sagarin, etc..
      have weekly polls??

I will say this... due to weak non-conf schedule... Dixon is using the Big East schedule to figure out how best to play the team.
      Not good...
Which is why the non-conf should have been tougher.
But, the team is playing at times the way they should.
      - push the tempo... run'em and win in the last 5min.
      - use all 10 players.. no player less than 10 min and no player more than 30 min... i said this from the beginning of the season.
      - no player to take more than 10 shots per game.. in other words, put Woodall on a leash.

I like when Woodall runs the point... as he pushes the tempo... and Zieglar at the 2.
btw... I said this in the middle of non-conf schedule... this team is unlike any other team Dixon has had.

    7. Joe, I'm sure you know there's a difference between weekly polls and preseason predictions. One's a snapshot of a team, and the other is a guess as to how their season will go.

If you're going to make preseason predictions, that's a one shot deal. You can't then go and change it during the season.

they have 3 BCS D1 players....
I highly doubt Coach Z. will turn it into a circus... he may not even have media day...

I can assure this... he will tell his players, go look at the schools and decide... don't wait until the last minute. Henry and Fields already made unofficials to Pitt and OSU. He will tell them to sit down with their families and decide which college fits you best from an education perspective and a football perspective.
He will make sure his players are NOT disrespectful to any college. No posting on facebook. No tweets. Once you committ, don't change unless there is a coaching change... etc.

  37. How forgiving will Pitt fans be when Boyd signs, only to see spot duty on special teams for his entire career, in light of all the drama he's created with his recruitment? Given the crap shoot recruiting REALLY is, I think that which has surrounded Boyd's recruitment raises serious red flags.

In any event, WR is one of the easiest positions to find high-level players. Not getting a "potential" star this year hardly hurts this recruiting class. The important gets are on the lines, then a QB.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Pitt hardly has a lot of elite talent in this class. They are in no position to lose the few they have.

      Delete
    2. This class certainly isn't spectacular, but it is solid. I just don't think losing Boyd (or Foster for that matter) diminishes this class all that much. For one, Pitt had Larry Fitz once upon a time, yet failed to win the Big East because they couldn't block Vince Wilfork, or tackle anyone at all wearing a hoopie uniform.

I'm not saying that gamebreaking WRs aren't important. They're just not as important as destructive offensive and defensive linemen, or great QB's. Pitt did fairly well in those categories. And gamebreaking WRs are far easier to find than big-time linemen or QB's. Everyone is playing the spread or throwing it all over the field in high schools now.

Losing Foster and potentially Boyd hurts, but far and away the more important gets, IMO, were Chapman, Johnson & Co. And Pitt landed those. I just don't think there should be weeping and knashing of teeth at the thought of losing a WR recruit - especially one that seems to have used the recruiting process to focus as much attention on himself as possible.

      Delete
    3. Sounds like your just mad because Boyd was wavering. No matter how you rationalize it, losing two elite WRs in your own backyard, when you desperately need some, would have been a failure.

      Delete
    4. aapm has a good point. It's true it would very disappointing to lose the 2 best (on paper) rated WR's in the area, especially since its a position of need. However, the overall class will not be a failure either way. It's still a very solid class and speaks volumes for a first year coach. It's also correct to say that rebuilding the lines and getting quality qbs is far more important for the future of the program than landing either of the wrs. That said, would be great to get boyd. If not, good luck to him wherever he goes.
