Pitt lands their point guard of the future as 6'4" Damon Wilson has committed to the Panthers. Wilson, a native of Georgia, plays at Our Savior New American in Centereach, NY. Wilson is a lefty who is has a high basketball IQ, is a good passer with good shooting skills. Georgia, Georgia Tech, and Virginia Tech are among his early offers.
I don't know anything about him but the height is nice ... is this a good get ? Also, good to see that interest was from larger programs.
ReplyDeleteThank God for Slice reopening that NYC pipeline.
ReplyDeleteIt appears Brandon Knight recruited him.
DeleteKnight played for AAU Playaz as does Wilson.
I don't think it's a coincedence that Pitt is getting NY kids again and Slice is back on the staff. Knight may have been recruiting him, but Slice has all the connections in NY, including AAU. It's been 15 years since Knight played AAU.
DeleteMike W.
Brandin Knight is as connected to the Playaz AAU team as you can be and that's who Wilson played for. This was all Knight.
DeleteJust read zags that Mike Rice is back at the Hoop Group AAU club and tournament organizer. That is where Rice started his coaching career. Another good tie in for Pitt BB recruiting.
DeleteYeah I thought the same thing. I talked to Mike a lot when he was at Pitt. Good guy. But of course I never failed to block out.
DeleteMaybe the next time there is an assistant spot open at Pitt, Rice could be hired. He shouldn't be blackballed forever.
Delete4 stars according to rival.
ReplyDeleteI believe a former teamate and friend of Mike Young. Probably was an easier sell due to that. He could still get taller also I read.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Damon. Hope he becomes a superstar player for Pitt.
ReplyDeleteI like that he is a lefty. At least the bball team has assistant coaches that can recruit.
ReplyDeleteOn a separate note, the ASU AD just became AD at Texas - how long before Fraud moves on to his "dream job" at Texas???
Texas will never hire Graham
ReplyDeleteI’m liking the possibilities of a three-guard offense in the future with some skilled forwards. Throw in Luther and Rowan and you have shooters coming off the bench. Coaches just need to find some depth in the post. Looking forward to a team who can score, score, score.
ReplyDeleteG - Robinson
G - Mostella
G – Wilson
F – Jeter
F – Young
Young is not a 5. Dixon scheme is not 2-PF or Villinova ball.
DeleteJeter is not a 4. He is an SF. Good ballhandling skills.
Forget about Mostella as he is not matriculating to Pitt.
Jeter is a 4. He's down in Florida trying to be a 3.
DeleteChris, do you think Pitt made a mistake not getting the older Indian brother who was at Kiski and is in New Mexico now? Or does Dixon truly want to run and that kid is just way too big?
DeleteNot only great because Pitt gets a talented recruit, but Wilson's team has a lot more to offer in both 2015 and 2016 in Diallo and Yakwe.
ReplyDeleteNice addition and nice to see we have one sport where our coaches who can recruit. And the return of Slice shows how important having good assistants who can recruit can be. Perhaps Jamie and McConnell-Serio for that matter can teach Chryst and Company a few things about how to recruit
ReplyDelete30-plus recruits coming to Heinz Field on Saturday. Hoping for a great atmosphere and more importantly the win!
DeleteGotta take a perfectly good post about something positive and turn it into an opportunity to bash to football team... unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteIf you would have found a way to throw Tino under the bus at the same time, that would have been the Superfecta!
While I don't know a lot about him, I love his size and I love that he's playing in NYC. He seems generally excited to play for Pitt, Jamie Dixon and Brandon Knight.
ReplyDeleteDoke, do you have any idea who the foreign big(s) are they're looking at?
ReplyDeleteRumor is it's Menno Dijkstra. Google him and see what you find.
DeleteWell based on the very small sample size we have available, if foreign players want a ticket to the NBA it might be through Pitt. I didn't watch last night, but apparently Steven Adams is making quite a name for himself in NBA circles. His improvement from Game 1 - to NCAA tournament was apparent. Hopefully Pitt becomes a pipeline for these type of players.
DeleteI see that he's also an MMA fighter. But that style of play may be too physical for the ACC.
ReplyDeleteI think you have the wrong Menno. The MMA fighter is 5'10"
ReplyDeletehttp://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Menno-Dijkstra-8782
Chris, do you have a list of recruits that will be at the game on Saturday?
ReplyDeleteDidn't you get the Menno. Sorry, another poor joke.
