Alex Bookser to Pitt

Well this takes some sting away from the Panthers losing Dravon Henry to West Virginia.  Alex Bookser, a 6'6" 300 pound offensive tackle from Mt. Lebanon HS, has committed to the Panthers.  Bookser can move very well for his size and because of his quick size he may project at left tackle.  Other offers came from the likes of Penn State, West Virginia, Ohio State, Alabama, Florida State, USC, Michigan State, Georgia, and Nebraska.

  1. Rudolph gets his offensive recruits, House just can't land no one on defense

  4. Bookser committing probably saved Haering's job.
Hope we get Monte. Pitt really needs him.

    1. Agreed. Will give credit to Chryst and co. for this one. Much better than the MAC level recruits they had been signing. This kid is legit and a very good get. But yea, sadly, him committing as you note likely saved Haering's job.

Best situation would be commits from Bookser and Nicholson and all new defensive coaches

  6. Love the fact that Bookser committed late Wednesday night with no fan fare & presser and oh by the way kind of thing.

    2. I concur, This whole crap with High School kids having press conferences is rediiculous

    3. The press conference thing is stupid.

There was a kid a few years ago who held a press conference to announce his school of choice. It was held in a gym, with a lot of people in attendance. The only problem was it was a hoax, and the kid had never been offered a scholarship. He just did it for attention.

Just announce it quietly and be done with it.

  8. Agree Buc. Classy commitment. Brief, straightforward and timely. Decisions are tough when those programs are involved. Let the detractors continue to say how terrible the recruiting is and the like. End of the day, it will come down to wins and losses in two years. Paul Chryst is building it the right way with the bigs. This will help control the ball and decrease the pressure on the defense which will bring the d, greater recognition individually. What a concept. A great strategic plan.

Pro style offense all the way baby! Congrats and welcome to Mr. Bookser and to the Pitt Staff. Any early enrollees this year?

Would be great to top off this class with one or two more 4 stars and hope for one or two flips at signing day.

  9. We lost out on Henry from a pipeline school, but we got both Bookser and Grimm from southside suburban schools, which have certainly not been our forte in the past. Hopefully, Henry and his outlier mother choosing the likes of WVU are the exception, but that Bookser and Grimm are signs of a new trend.

  10. This is great news and glad he decided to announce early. Wonder what made him to decide early? I thought I read where he scheduled his official vist to PITT for JAN 17. Either way, glad he gave his verbal!

    H2P!

  12. Got to like chances of getting Shai now. What kid wouldn't want to run behind a big line in a Chryst offense. Definitely need to get Nicholson for the D. H2P!

  13. So what are you hearing Chris regarding Nicholson and McKenzie?

    1. I will be stunned if you get a response on this. If I were Chris, I wouldn't share that this close to their announcements. Nothing to gain by telling us and possibly much to lose.

  14. According to Rivals, Pitt's 2014 recruiting class moved up to 39th in the country ahead of WVU, Rutgers, Michigan State, etc. Add a few local kids and Kamara and this will be a pretty decent class. I'd prefer if Pitt had a top 25 class every year, but with these bozos running things that isn't likely. Good job by the staff to land a big local kid like Bookser. Too bad he wasn't able to convince his teammate Apke to go with him.

  15. Not that I don't want Nicholson and Shai(I hate those stupid press conf. seems like they always do that to announce they are going far from home.) However, I will say that this is a much bigger deal than either of them. It speaks to what PC has said he wanted to do from day one and whether or not you like being patient(and it may take a few more years) he is moving things in the right direction. Holding onto to Bisnowaty, bringing in Johnson and Grimm and Bookser along with a bunch of other big OL, bringing in Conner and James.... This team is going to run the ball. They might not have huge success next year, but it is coming. With that brings the trickle down to success. Defense looks better than it is because they stay off the field. QB has pressure taken off of his shoulders. The team controls the ball the clock and all of a sudden a winning team starts to bring in the other recruits we have been missing out on. I know somehow a lot of negative nancys on here will find a way to disagree, but this along with Grimm earlier and James are huge and a reason to call this recruiting class a success.

    1. I think its a bigger deal than McKenzie, but pitt needs help in the secondary.. badly. Nicholson is the biggest fish left to fry in this class imo

  16. I never had any doubt this kid was committing, was a heavy Pitt lean all year. Hopefully Nicholson commits today and McKenzie tommorw.

  17. With the OL looking much better consider moving Clemmons back to DE. Physically he is a monster and Pitt's DE are questionnable at best.

    1. If he was good at DE they wouldn't have moved

  18. congrats to PC and staff ... best wishes to AB on a successful Pitt career ... Things are shaping up, albeit more slowly than most fans would like... but .. looking ahead to 2015 season and beyond ... OL with Johnson, Bookser, Grimm and 1 or 2 other big fellas, an experienced QB with Voytik or other, juniors Boyd, Orndorf & Holtz, and a selection of experienced RBs with some combination of Conner, Crockett, Ibrahim, James, Ollison and potentially McKenzie .. Could be very, very nice !

  19. Welcome to Pitt Alex, and congratulations to the Pitt staff on landing this big boy. Wow, that is an impressive offer list.

If we can get these young O linemen coached up, the line could be one of the team's strengths. That will hopefully get the attention of the skill guys who are considering Pitt.

  20. Where are all those people that say stars don't matter?
That Chryst is building with 2stars and the Wisky comparison?
I hope people come to realize stars do matter and Pitt needs elite players to be competitive otherwise we will be 6-6 for many years to come.

    1. Sorry, stars really don't matter. They're nice and all since they make the uninformed, or uninterested in being informed, to feel smart.

I think it's more important to find kids who fit into the systems being run, who want to commit to the program, and have a willingness to continuous work to improve themselves.
