Possible WR coach name

Again, according to Pete Roussel, Montreal Alouettes WR coach Erik "Soup" Campbell is in the mix to possibly be the new Pitt WR coach. He coached at Michigan from 1995-2007 where he coached All-Americans Charles Woodson, David Terrell, and Braylon Edwards, as well as Amani Toomer, Jason Avant, Tai Streets, Marion Manningham, and Steve Breaston.  At Iowa from 2008-2012, he coached Melvin McNutt to an All-American season.  He is from Gary, IN, and presumably has recruiting ties in the Big 10 region.

  1. I think I could coach Tyler Boyd. Basically point him towards the field.

  2. Based upon his background... Campbell could coach D-Backs just as well as Receivers.

    From his Iowa Bio...

    ********
Campbell was a four-year letterman (1984-87) at Michigan and boasts starts on both sides of the ball. The Wolverines compiled a 35-13-1 record and won the 1986 Big Ten title while Campbell was a squad member. He is the only player in Michigan football history to start at all four secondary positions in one year.

  3. Could it be two good hires in one day for coach chryst? Not only is he hiring earlier but he appears to be looking for people with actual experience. It's almost like he's finally starting to get this head coaching thing.

  4. What is the connection to Wisky?

    1. Is it possible the rumors were right? That the AD was going to demand some coaching changes and to cut the strings with Wisky connection.
The 2 being mentioned have no connection to Wisky that I know of. Anybody? Did someone, within Chryst circle, recommend these 2 coaches?

  7. Anyone good enough to spend 4 years under Lloyd Carr is ok in my book.

  9. WR Coach has longevity at a big time program coaching up nfl'ers. Iowa State guy appears to be a drifter. One out of two in my book. That said, he has florida connections so if he does come, he better be a great closer.

    1. All assistant coaches are pretty much drifters

  10. It looks to me as though Paul Chryst isn't wasting a minute this time around. I guess he realizes to get the people he wants, he has to move quickly. I read elsewhere that the Iowa State coach may stay put.

  11. Campbell is more likely and OK as an addition.

But make no mistake about it, Douglas is the REAL PRIZE.

  12. Judging by Rivals, it looks like Campbell primarily recruits Michigan and Texas.

  13. Based upon the quality players he's coached,Troy Douglas is likely pretty good when it comes to recruiting.

However... there is no doubt he's GOOD when it comes to Coaching... an apparent Master at KEEPING IT SIMPLE.

    Douglas' Two Rules...

Rule No. 1) The ball is the issue.

Rule No. 2) You are what you put on tape.

Read more on Douglas and you get a sense of just how important landing him could be to Pitt's immediate future.

  14. I'll be honest, I've never heard of either of these coaches, but don't underestimate the impact of losing Engram. He was by far our best recruiter and the players loved him. Hopefully they can bring in some guys who are solid recruiters. I'd rather them hire a coach with ties to Florida than the WPIAL - see Louisville.

    1. Douglas has Florida ties. Check out his bio.
He got kids from Florida to go to ISU. If he can do that, it will be much easier for him to get them to Pitt.

    2. That's good news in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, it's important to get the WPIAL kids, but I think it's equally if not more important to find those guys in the South. Remember a few years ago when Pitt got exposed by Ole Miss in the bowl game? That was mostly due to speed, but the South historically has more speed than around here.

  15. Looks like it's official with Douglas joining Pitt.
Seems he may be a good recruiter looking at all the Florida players on ISU roster. I'm assuming he was responsible for recruiting Florida players due to his ties.

  16. Looks like if they do hire Erik, he's had some experience in Special Teams so I wonder if he comes in as WR/ST coach.
