The place to rant or cheer

I'm going to be visiting my wife's family in North Carolina until Sunday afternoon so I won't be able to write much about the Miami game or Maui. I will have my phone with me and I can write comments or confirm or deny comments, but it's pretty impossible to write a long article on a phone. So if you want to make any comments from now until Sunday, this is the place. Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

  1. Did you complete the survey?
Promo Code for merchandise on panther website is: H2P

My response as to if I will go to a game next year.
    1. If they fire Pederson.
    2. If they hire new HC and staff.
    3. When they start winning! 6-6 is unacceptable.

    4. I filled out the survey and I, like others, took the opportunity to express my displeasure and uncertainty about renewing next year. Can you believe Smiley stated in the Trib he is pleased with where the football program is? Anyway, it takes a long time to complete if you enter comments in the boxes - which I did.

    2. Zatiti, I'm planning to come down to Pinehurst to play golf over Memorial Day weekend. Maybe we should get together to plan our recruiting & scheme strategies and split of duties, to streamline the process to become Pitt's next head co-head football coaches? haha

    3. Imma Man! Im 40! - would love to do a lunch (on my company) together when you come down...if Pitt doesn't make me commit suicide 1st that is...

I can also tell you which Pinehurst courses to play...and not to.

For example, #2 is way overrated - #8 is awesome as is The National.

I can't play anymore - effed up neck.

We'll exchange e-mails as the time approaches.

Btw, I just got a "Paul Chryst for President" bumpersticker....DUUOOOOYYYY

    Happy Thanksgiving and safe travels!

  5. Happy Holidays!

Pitt hoops is in transition without Wright and Durand. Luckily Cam will be back, but it won't solve all the perimeter issues. I don't expect a win versus SDSU. Most likely Pitt leaves Maui with two losses and then has to play at Indiana, who can shoot threes.

The youngsters need to continue to develop and let's hope some defensive help comes in this recruiting class. Haughton will transfer and another player can be added to this class.

  7. I completed my survey but I'm afraid not much will happen. SP will pass on the mathermatical analysis to Gallagher but not the comments since there will be so many and hard to accumulate. The math will show the displeasure with the current situation, and probably that the most important criterion for buying tickets is how good the FB team is.

But the Chancellor will likely never see all the anti-AD comments

  8. I filled out the survey in detail. I was clear no more donations, no more club tickets, no more games unless Steve Pederson is fired.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Pretty much answered the survey the same, will not renew our football season tickets, unless at the minimum, a competent defensive coordinator is hired. Said we were sick of seeing a mediocre product, and that the University needs to open up the purse strings to compete in one of the top 5 conferences, or de-emphasize football, enough of this 6-6 crap. Expressed our supreme displeasure with the lazy coaching style (not sugar coating this by calling him laid back) of HCPC, and total incompetence of ADSP. Of coarse the new chancellor will never see the comments - that is why we sent him a snail mail saying the same things in an intelligent, reasonable way.

  11. Wow... Pitt getting spanked by SD.
I said, Pitt season will be determine by production of Center. Right now, center is weak with Uchebo and Randall.
Losing Wright and Johnson didn't help either.

  12. Honest question: When was the last time Pitt basketball had a signature win? Seems like the last 3-4 years we always say, "team will be better next year."

Since Pitt is now a "basketball school" shouldn't we be looking for results?

    2. Just like football, it comes down to recruiting for the most part.

However, in this case, Dixon needs to change or loosen up his style of play to attract better players.
Dixon current style of play is not attractive to elite players.

Pitt has the facilities to attract elite. Can't say that about football.
Pitt is in a great basketball conference to attract elite. Can't say that about football.
      So, what is the issue?
In no way am I suggesting Dixon should be fired but he should be willing to change his style of play. Losing Rohrsen hurt from a recruiting perspective.

  16. Didn't watch game last night. SDSU sounds legit. Will be watching against KSU tonight. Bottom line is they need to improve on defense. Cam Wright should be a help when he comes back.

Completed the survey. Basically said my attendance at future games would be contingent upon a more competitive and successful team.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Enjoy the game tonight.

  17. So Mr. "Unreal," how's that "Pitt is a top 25 program" thing working. It seems to me that they would have to ,you know, finish in the top 25 consistenly be a top 25 program, which is no longer happening. And the big recruits expected haven't happened. I would have argued, generously, that Pitt is a top 40 program generally speaking, but from their performance they are no where near even top 40 this year.

  18. Is there any white players that have been good for Pitt throughout their history other than Sean Miller and now Drago?

  21. So I must admit after the San Diego State loss I started to believe the this program might be in trouble, this year there is no way an NCAA birth. Jamie cannot recruit-what is he thinking. Now it was only for a second until my friend who does not say anything bad to anyone said he likes the team and are u forgetting who are coach is. Jamie might not be able to recruit top 50, he might not be able to speak well to media, he might not be able to make a final four but Jamie can coach and he knows what he is doing. Not to mention he might be one of the top 3 all around good guy coaches in all of basketball--no shady stuff period and I even bet he does not lie(imagine that Holgerson) but who would have thought Ryan Luther, Ryan Luther to me looks like a winner. When he is a JR look out. I might be crazy but I think he has a real shot at the NBA. I remember when we got blown out early in the year a few years ago I think by(I cannot remember) but we said we stink, and we finished in top 4 of the bug east with a team that had no right being in the top 4. So IN JAMIE WE TRUST. and don't forget it

    1. So, are you saying Dixon should not be held accountable?
That is the problem with Pitt fans in general.
      Accepting mediocrity in all sports.

I like Dixon but he needs to change his style in order to recruit elite players. Without elite players, Dixon will never make Final 4 nor Elite 8 nor Sweet 16.
Pitt put tons of money into the Basketball program, we expect results. What are the excuses this time? This isn't football without on campus facilities.

  23. To PittofDreams,

Let me be the first to say that you called the Pitt win over Miami. It hurts to acknowledge it. LOL. BTW...Voytik played well.

    ReplyDelete
  24. We're going to a minor bowl, and I'm happy about it. And I'm also looking forward to next year. I guess that's typical for the Pitt football program. Disappoint, disappoint, disappoint, pull off an upset and it feels like there is hope for next year.

I must say it has been fun to watch Voytik progress this year. He's not there yet and he had games where he took steps backward, but from the first game to the last he made major strides. I'm hoping next year the game slows down for him and he improves upon his leadership skills. He seems like a gamer and if he can make more big plays (especially passing plays) the team will rally around him.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Two points, first, as you said, Voytik is actually a noticeably better QB today than he was against say, Iowa. I read a couple places that Voytik is actually Chryst's first underclassmen QB since his first year as OC at Oregon State. Never had less than a JR QB at Wisconsin. I think that is encouraging. If Voytik -who from a recruiting perspective was no slouch - can even grow in to an average passing QB, we're in a much better place at the start of next season than we were this year.

Second, almost everyone on the two deep is coming back next year. With respect to Manessa Garner, we're only losing three contributors on offense - Bennett whose production has already been replaced by Chris James, and Rotherham and Clemmings on the line. While both will very likely be drafted, Clemmings in the first two rounds from the sound of it, Jones-Smith, who's started 3 games this year, will take Clemmings LT spot, and either Officer will slide over with Rowell at C or 4 stars Bookser/Grimm will take Rotherams RG spot.

On defensive, we lose Durham at DE, Thomas and Gonzalez at OLB, and Vinopal S. That's it. Durham (who hasn't contributed statistically) will be replaced by increased playing time for Rori Blair and Luke MaClean. Vinopal will replaced by increased time for Pat Amara, who really looks poised to be a good contributor. While the LB losses will not be insignificant, Bam Bradley, the surprising Quintin Wirginis, and an improved Nicholas Grigsby will not be bad replacements. Throw in Howard's return and the addition of our first Chryst-era defensive blue chip in Jordan Whitehead, and things are legitimately looking up.

I'm not gonna waste time talking about win projections, because, well, Pitt, but from a talent and experience perspective, next year's team is unquestionably better than this year's.

  25. By beating Miami I hope Pitt doesn't think they've fixed their defensive problems.

    1. Yeah... there's hope for next season because of the offense. The defense only bright spot is the secondary and maybe DT. House either needs to go - or needs help.

  26. The win last night feels like 13-9 win over WVU that could jump start for next year

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It doesn't feel that way to me and here's why. WVU was a very good team that Pitt beat. Miami, on the other hand, has lots of very good players, but they are not a good team.

    2. Great point but we didnt think that prior to the game or at the beginning of the season.

      Delete
    3. And certainly before the Pitt WVU game of '07, no one gave Pitt a chance. Regarding Miami, their dominance over Pitt over the years and the caliber of players they have gave Pitt fans a sense of doom. But Miami is not a good football team and Pitt was able to take advantage of it.

  28. I'm glad for the win, but this overall was a disappointing season. The schedule lined up for at least 8 wins, and all Pitt needed to do to get there was make a FG against GA Tech, and not have an inexplicable, inexcusable loss to Akron. Goes to show what a fine line it is between a mediocre season, and a good one.

I'm not too thrilled about the bowl game, other than the extra practice time it affords. However, I'd be very interested if we somehow play PSU. I think Pitt wins that game, and it'd be great to put an ass whuppin' on the Nits.

The offense is solid, and Voytik is progressing. Pitt needs to focus on improving the D. If that happens, I see good things for the future. If not, we'll be stuck in the mediocre zone.

Coach Chryst needs to move this program beyond mediocre soon, or else he won't be long for Pitt. I like him personally, but the name of the game is winning, and .500 isn't going to cut it.

  31. I am not a big HCPC fan, but I'll give him this. After losing consecutive games to Ga Tech, Duke and UNC in terrible fashion, he did not lose the team. And Pitt does not have a lot of senior leadership. Even so, Pitt is in need of changes to the defensive staff and AD position at a minimum.

  35. It's time to fire Jamie Dixon. He peaked 5 years ago, and he hasn't recovered. We have haven't made the second weekend since 2009, and with this year's absolutel dumpster fire it will be 2 of 5 years we won't even make the NIT, let alone the NCAA's. People always say, "but who will you get to replace him?" Ben Howland, that's who. He was great for Pitt and UCLA. Fire Jamie Dixon, welcome back Ben Howland. It's not complicated.

  36. Anonymous 9:16 - "It's time to fire Jamie Dixon"....so are we to expect a Pitt presser today?

There is zero- ZERO way Pitt fires Dixon even if he doesn't win another single game this year - try - TRY to be real please.

Our best defensive player is out and because Durand Johnson went nuts, we can't redshirt Slim Johnson.

This team will only get better as the season progresses - much better with Luther, Slim, Jeter, Young getting more and more experience.

Defensively, we absolutely suck and Robinson has been a disappointment .....thus far into the season.

Long way to go - step away from the ledge and take a deep breath please.

Everyone was ready to jump off of the bridge after we got hammered by SDSU - then we slaughter KSU.

There's going to be ups and downs with this team this year no question.

But to suggest that Pitt needs to fire Dixon is beyond ludicrous.
