Panthers land a top LB

The new Panthers staff has had three good additions on defense thus far, one for each unit. The latest is 6'2" 195 pound linebacker Anthony McKee of Marion-Franklin HS in Columbus, OH. Obviously McKee is small for a linebacker so he will need to add a lot of weight in college, but he's also very fast with great range. His other offers included Oklahoma, Michigan State, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

  1. This reminds me of when Tommie Campbell came to Pitt was was woefully thin for a linebacker but was moved there anyways for speed purposes. I hope McKee can put on the weight needed for OLB.

What could have been with Campbell and Fields as Pitt's safeties late last decade.

  2. Hmm, two kids that had offers to Wisonsin taking Pitt over Pitt losing two kids that didn't have many major program offers going to Wisconsin. Looks like "just offer" is working as well for PC in Wisconsin as it did here.

    1. To paraphrase Eddie Murphy in "48 Hours", there's a new sheriff in town and his name is Pat Narduzzi.

Man, it's fun to watch a staff recruit aggressively. Coach Duzz's posse is going to kick ass and take names.

James Franklin, take note, although I'm sure you already have.

  3. He's going to be a big time player. A Big TIME player. He'll see the field next year for sure.

Also, I've been watching the hudl videos of kids you mentioned and the other rumored to be receiving offers from Pitt and I really hope we can flip Jawuan Harris. He's a such a fast and smooth athlete.

  4. Hey Chris, what's the knock on Kedarian Jones? He is not rated or ranked by any of the major scouting services, but he's 6'2" and (allegedly) runs a 4.50 40. His hudl video shows him high pointing the ball and making some good moves. His only offers appears to be Memphis, UL-M, and Tenn State. Any idea what his deal is, I know zip about Texas football. He's from a Dallas high school with 1,500 students so he's not out in the boonies. Why so few offers? Interesting we sent someone all the way down to Texas for a prospect like this.

    1. There's an enormous amount of players in Texas so many fall through the cracks. TCU gets something like the eighth crack at a lot of these kids and they still get enough to be a power. As for Jones specifically, I think he has good but not great speed, but he makes a lot of pretty nice catches, has good height, and speed. He should have more offers. I'd say he's pretty similar to Tre Tipton.

    2. Thanks, I really appreciate your insight. If it's not too much, per Narduzzi's twitter map, Chaney was recruiting in Cleveland on Jan 20, and today Chris Peak mentioned on his radio show that Chaney is after DiNucci, "a Michigan QB prospect [we know it's Tyree Jackson] and an Ohio QB prospect." The Ohio prospect could be two guys, Mitchell Guadagni or Brett Kean. Do you know which guy it was?

    3. Seen a few mentions that it was Brett Kean.

  5. I know the new head coach he's got everybody excited. But the players that were recruited were already being recruited by the coaching staff that left. Let's see what surprises you brings.

    1. Stocker would have been 50/50 for the old staff and they had no chance with Curtis and McKee.

    2. Anon@ 6:28....there's not even a comparison between the old staff and the new one regarding recruiting. The new staff is light years better.

    3. Wow that quarterback out of Michigan tyre Jackson. He looks like the real deal I don't understand why he doesn't have more offers pitt should take a long look at him.

  7. FYI - SI.com did an NFL Draft Re-deux yesterday and had Aaron Donald going 3rd behind Carr and Beckham Jr.

    1. Imagine the Texans with Donald and Watt rushing the passer. Clowney might be done with his microfracture surgery. Basketball players can't overcome it. How will a football player?

Do you think the Bowers kid will flip to PS?????

    1. Correct me if I'm wrong Chris, but with the amount of kids they've had come in for visits and offers they have put out there, I wouldn't be surprised if they were letting him go anyway.

    2. No, they don't want him to go.

  9. Luke McLean is leaving? Rumor or true?

    1. True

I believe Narduzzi will now bring in 20 or more recruits as I suspect some other kids will be leaving (especially some of those very suspect Chryst specials)

  10. I have a basketball question for you all. Does it seem like every team recently that pitt has played has shot out of there you know what? I mean come on Louisville shot 80% in the first half 100% from three's even if you don't Guard them they can't shoot that.

    1. It's called bad defense. Weak man coverage on the perimeter followed up no zero post threat blocking shots.

  12. Unless Dixon upgrades his recruiting, get used to the current brand of BB.

  13. This hoops team might be young, but I'm not going to believe the future is promising unless this team pulls some upsets this season. That's allowed even in a rebuilding season. The home schedule set this team up to do it with Louisville, ND and North Carolina at home.

Pitt needs to find a way to win tomorrow at VTech, pull an upset at home versus ND, beat Bryant and Syracuse and get to 17-7. Only then will the team have a shot at the NIT. The following four games after Cuse: @Louisville, NC, @Virginia, @Syracuse. Brutal.
