Panthers get a fourth commitment

It's been awhile but Pat Narduzzi got his fourth verbal commitment today as 6'1" 160 pound free safety Bricen Garner pledged to the Panthers. Garner, from Pittsburgh Central Catholic HS, picked up his offer after performing at one of the Panthers camps. Garner has decent speed, but his length and athleticism are his major attributes. He is one of the most accomplished long jump and triple jump performers in Pennsylvania. Other offers include Cincinnati, UConn, Temple, and a bunch of mid-major programs.

  1. A low-ish level prospect, but being from central catholic and his WPIAL relationships make it intriguing. He’s 6’1 164 so the kid needs some weight. UConn and Cincy aren’t bad offers and, like Chryst with O-Lineman, Narduzzi gets a pass on defensive recruits. If Pat says this kid can play in his backfield, I am sold. Hail to Pitt. Welcome aboard Mr. Garner.

    1. CC Coach Totten indicated that Bricen's slight build has to do with him being a 3 sport star, and that weight training in college should build him up to be where he should. Currently, Pitt would be able to redshirt him since they seem be stocked for this season and next. bill

    2. I trust Narduzzi since he's a defensive coach, but I'm not sure he gets a pass. His defense last season, with better players than he’ll ever have at Pitt, were abused versus Oregon, Ohio State and Baylor.

Narduzzi, like any coach outside of who's coaching Oregon, needs elite recruits to get elite results.

    3. I'm pretty sure all of that is wrong.

    6. Baylor had the highest scoring offense in 2014 Division I FBS football at 48.23 points per game. It was a very explosive offense MSU faced, and they held them below their average by a touchdown, and when it mattered most, MSU's defense came up big to help seal the win.

It wasn't like MSU was playing Little Sisters of the Poor; Baylor hung a ton of points on pretty much everyone on their schedule, resulting in the number one scoring offense in the country.

Bottom line, MSU won the game, and in the 4th quarter the D gave up ZERO points to the most prolific offense in football.

  2. Coach Duzz loves the big and long db's, seems like he offered about 30. Reading all the tweets from the local kids I think the dam is about to burst.

  3. Chris, have you heard anything about when the next piece, pieces might fall? A lot of people thought it could possibly be Wade, Mathews, Flowers or Miles today. Even though everyone really knew it was going to be Brice. Any other dates set to announce? Do you think Mathews is the next one to jump on board? Any chance a big piece falls soon, or do you think a Miles flip, Hamlin commit, or any of the 17 kids committing will be well after the season starts. Hamlin is going to have a big sway in this years recruiting to whatever team he goes to. If he is going to commit to Pitt, it would make sense for him to do so earlier rather than later to pull more talent in the area. Would you say the longer the wait for Hamlin the better chance he does go to OSU?

  4. If Sanders flips I doubt that it would be for a long time yet. And I'm talking the last month if not the last week. And I don't see Wade committing for a long time. Mathews I could see possibly committing this summer, though.

  5. If/ When Sanders does flip from psu to Pitt, THEN we will know for sure that the dam has broken wide open. Such an occurance will prove that HCPN's recruiting results are "Miles" ahead of HCPC's previous efforts. Did you see what I did just there? Ha

    1. It'd be nice if Sanders flips, but I wouldn't use that as the only barometer of Coach Duzz's recruiting ability versus Chryst's.

I'd wait and see what the overall class looks like. I think it's pretty safe to say that this staff is much more aggressive than Chryst's, and I wouldn't count them out of any recruiting battle.

If you have to explain a joke, it loses a lot.

  6. It looks like Damar Hamlin, David Adams, and the Jackson twins will be getting some private meetings with the position coaches at Pitt. Tightening the noose.

  7. Sanders as well. This staff is really energetic and keenly aware of what is needed. tough to get a feel for recruits as to real interest, but it is more than the lip service HCPC and staff had with better recruits.

  10. Pitt lands Ohio Runningback Chawntez Moss.

If you're NOT going to get Miles Sanders, this helps ease the pain somewhat.
