Kaezon Pugh to Pitt

The Panthers storybook season continues as Aliquippa linebacker Kaezon Pugh has verbally committed to the Panthers. The 6'2" 210 pound Pugh is one of the best linebacker prospects in the east, and his commitment adds to a quickly improving linebacker corps.

Pugh's other finalist was West Virginia, and his other offers included Auburn, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Virginia Tech, Duke, Tennessee, Nebraska, Michigan State, Missouri, and Arizona.

  4. Do you have a mailing address for Barry Alvarez? I'm gonna send him a nice holiday fruit basket for taking back HC Passive Paul, and shedding us of DC Outhouse in the process.

First of all, no way we win that game last Saturday against GA Tech with the previous cast of characters. And wins like that help recruiting, the lifeblood of the college game.

Secondly, the new gang definitely gets it when it comes to recruiting. Which begets winning, which begets even better recruiting.

    1. "Hey, if you want to come great if not, we understand." - Chryst's recruiting pitch.

In all seriousness though, Chryst didn't have the resources Narduzzi has now. They renovated the practice facility which was badly needed, got more money towards assistants and recruiting budget.

The thing I'm most impressed about with Narduzzi is his presence on social media. He obviously understands that it's a HUGE part of recruiting right now, and essentially is a recruiting tool without leaving his office/home. They've brought an excitement back to the program that hasn't been seen around these parts since Wannstedt was hired.

    2. What happened to the preaching of stability and being patience that Chryst brought to the program?

Minus Connor and throw in Peterman this is essentially the same team as last season. Maybe we finally found a real coach!!!

    3. Anon@8:50, not sure who your comments were directed at, I presume not me. Because never once in my entire life did I suggest we be patient with Passive Paul. I was literally nauseous when his hire was first announced. Literally.

I thought he was a bad hire from Day One for a college coach because he isn't a strong recruiter. That's like being hired as an engineer despite having poor math & computer skills. i still think his skill set says NFL, not NCAA.

And when HCPC hired incompetent crony Matt House as DC, that sealed it for me. I'd still love to know if that was entirely his call, or if ADSP didn't give him enough $$ to hire someone competent with experience. Doesn't matter now, I suppose.

Begrudgingly to HCPC's credit (which Narduzzi has mentioned too), Chryst left us with enough talent and character so that someone who DOES know how to coach, recruit, and assemble a staff doesn't have to start from scratch on scorched earth.

  5. New staff quickly improving depth and quality of team talent .... still more is needed to go if we are to compete with the big boys. Welcome aboard to all the recent recruits and to those still considering Pitt ... come on and join the party. H2P !!

  6. Who is left from the 412 gang to secure commitments from ?

  7. Not sure how the staff closes out the class, but still need two WRs, a tackle, a tight end, two DTs (one being a JuCo), an end, CB, S and Sanders.

That’s 10 and I think with Conner and Boyd gone there are currently 13 openings. I think the staff can purge to get 20.

Poker, Reggie Green, Wuester are three who have no business being back. A walk-on fullback might not be renewed. One must wonder what Voytik is thinking with one season left? Play here and there at Pitt or transfer down and actually play one more year in the sun.

It actually might be easy for the staff to find those 10 extra openings.

    1. Voytik will want to start. I think he is gone after this season.

    2. A large portion of why Voytik came to Pitt was to be a doctor like his dad. I don't think he'll go anywhere but of course you never know.

As for DTs I think they'll get another one but that situation is not as dire as people think. Jarrett is very good and Dintino, Moody, and Taleni aren't bad. There's just no need to play the latter three this year. And Wheeler and Hargrove has a chance to enter the rotation. I would like to see one really good freshman added, though, so he can play right away.

    3. The staff needs the D-tackle who decommitted from Western Michigan and a JuCo. Dintino the last two weeks switched his number from 76 to 84. I assume he’s still at tackle and not tight end. I only want a JuCo because you need five available bodies and being able to redshirt three high school kids would be terrific.

    4. 1. Voytik is no longer in medicine. He's a finance major.

      2. They don't need 2 more DT's. The have Wheeler & Hargrove currently committed. As Chris said, the have Jarrett, Dintino, Moody & Taleni for next season. That's the same number of guys they have playing regularly now (Jarrett, Render, Mosley-Smith & Scarpinato).

    5. You're gambling going into a football season with just four defensive tackles and relying on a true freshman in the trenches. Let the freshmen redshirt and have a JuCo in the rotation. And so far Pitt has been lucky that no defensive tackles have been hurt. Anyone remember the hell Wannstedt took in 2006 for how the defense played down the stretch? He had just three defensive tackles available. No thanks in going through that again.

    6. They're going to have 4 veterans and 3 freshmen. That's plenty. Only four will play most of the time anyway.

  8. This is James from State college on the phone why doesn't anyone want to play for me

    1. It hasnt gone well lately for him but they still have a much better class than pitt right now.

If pitt flips sanders, nail down Hamlin, Matthews, and gilbert, they maybe a Hudson or someone else then we can talk about psu in a recruiting decline.

    2. Considering he didn't have a PSU offer could be a reason.

    3. PSU never offers kids they have no chance with.
