James Conner diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma

James Conner held a press conference today to say that he has been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. He will have chemotherapy for six months, starting within a week. The cure rate is 85%-95%, according to his doctor, who also expects a full recovery. Because of his condition, Conner  will be back to Pitt next season, and it's very possible that he will have a full recovery.

  1. Unfortunately James has to go through this, however he couldn't be in a better place to handle it. Thoughts and prayers are with him!!!1

Was hoping he would be back for another year, but certainly not under these circumstances. Best wishes for a full recovery James!

  5. Was wonderful watching him speak about this and such a spirited way. Cancer is just an ugly disease and it is inspirational to watch a young man take on this challenge head on with support from the team. I hope James, as well as many others who fight this disease, are able to defeat it. I cannot wait to see him take the field healthy again, will be an inspiration to see.

  6. It's going to be tough regain his form and body for next season. In time, yes I do think he makes a full recovery. Is his body in the kind of shape by the beginning of the season, absolutely not. Just reality.

  7. Eric Berry made a recovery and was back on the field this year for the Chiefs. Conner will do the same in an almost similar window as Berry.

  8. if it does play a 5-7team in the Pinstripe Bowl that is a slap in the face to Pitt and the ACC.....

  9. Anybody think there's a chance Conner redshirts next year? Do they still have the ability to say he redshirted this year? Draft status is surely gone, so i would think giving him as much time to get healthy and back into shape would be ideal.

    1. I should say, draft status for this year. I'm not putting anything past him further down the road.

  10. Prayers and thoughts to James Conner as he embarks on his personal battle. My sense is that he comes back to Pitt football and we keep him out for the first 3 or 4 games to make sure he is ready. Stamina will be key for him and he will be susceptible to further injury due to a weakened condition. Our expectations should be tempered with respect to a return date.

Will Sanders be enrolling early at his choice of college? If so, I think he has a great opportunity to start at Pitt in the fall and then share some time as his body gets used to the rigors of college football. The timing aligns in the scenario above.

If you are heading to Philly, grab the center city train from the airport. A R/T ticket is about $12 and takes 25 minutes. Easy to navigate and safe. Worth the trip. Any connection in Philly is iffy as far as air travel is concerned.

  11. Just saw Paul Chryst at ft lauderdale airport. He saw me wearing a PITT script hat, he said nice hat looks good. I said pray for Conner, thanks Boyd, beat PSU for us, and good luck. He said "will do, welcome, I will and thanks". Kind of neat

  14. Chaney leaving - good or bad? who are some likely replacements with connections to HCPN?

  15. Does chaney's leaving affect recruiting? Hope none of the offensive recruits leave. If that does not have a change on recruiting f, I think narduzzi can make a pretty good hire.

  16. Wow never a dull moment when it comes to the Panthers

  17. miles Sanders come out and say he's sticking with Penn State I think he never was going to go anywere and change it I think he was a nitwit all alone all these rumors were false.and I think pitts going to have a hard time with the other two players coming out of the WPIAL to when you go eight and four and a conference and you play in a minor bowl kids see that.kids up north love the big 10 recruit in a South and Florida.just some thoughts.

    1. He was very much considering Pitt. Probably still will if the right OC is found.

  18. one other thing running backs are a dime a dozen it's a quarterback and wide receiver world in the pros and college.pitt will get quality running backs the last 10 years have proven that.

  19. That young man never gave any indication that he was ever going to decomitt and ever time he said p.st was his team.move on next man up Mr Washington your next.

    1. He gave a lot of indications and told many people, actually.

  20. Is another running back even necessary? The backfield seems to be very crowded right now. If Conner is good to go, the Panthers will have a nfl caliber running back, the ACC offensive rookie of the year as a back up who could be used for short yard scenarios, Hall who showed flashes of being an all around RB and Ibrahim who is a very good 3DRB. This isn't accounting for moss who will come in early and Whitehead who could get 5-10 offensive plays a game. On top of all of this, khaleke Hudson would be able to take some carriers if he were to choose pitt

  21. Running backs are always necessary they get hurt more than any other player on the field. Its funny how the kids outside of Pittsburgh perceives the University of Pittsburgh as a great opportunity I think sometimes the local kids don't know what they have in their own backyard....

    1. Perhaps or maybe some just want to move away and not stay "in their own backyard." It's tough to guess why and why not that's why they make their own choices whether we like it or not.

      Delete
    2. And the ones who move away are rarely heard from again.

    3. Getting away was the case and why aint the good ones leave in Columbus for that matter Miami why no the good ones in Ohio and Texas and Florida never leave the state. I've been to South Bend I don't get it I've been at Duke they got an incredible campus but I think pitt just as nice. I've been to State College have friends that went there not in impressed. In what other people might think it has a rich tradition in football other than the sixties

    4. I didn't say some won't stay and attend Pitt nor did I say anything about leaving the state, just some may want to move away to college. You can't compare a regional school like Pitt and say well why don't Ohio kids skip a state school like OSU or Texas kids don't got to Texas or A&M. Whether we like it or not PSU is our state flagship school meaning they pull in students from the entire state, not just the western half and while you may not have been impressed with the campus, others may not like the city vibe Pitt has. The point is to each his own.

  22. from looking at the new commit Campbell film.stars aside the young man is a football player he has what you call football speed and the way he attacks on defense he's going to be a great addition to this team.I think they stole one.

  26. Dokes, I'm hearing rumors that Brad Salem is Duzz target for OC. Are you hearing anything on your end? If I recall, Duzz asked Salem to join his staff last year and Salem declined.
