Pitt gets their QB

Pat Narduzzi was looking to add a quarterback this recruiting cycle, and he managed to get a pretty good one when 6'3" 190 pound Kenny Pickett of Ocean Township HS in Oakhurst, NJ verbally committed to the Panthers today. Pickett originally committed to Temple, but he de-committed after his star began to rise this spring due to his good performances in various camps and combines.

Pickett is very accurate and has good mobility in the pocket. He doesn't have a cannon for an arm, but he should be able to make all of the necessary throws once he fills out physically. Besides Temple, Boston College, UConn, and Iowa were his biggest offers, but if he stayed on the market longer he certainly would have gotten more P5 offers.

With Pickett in the fold, the Panthers now have him, Thomas MacVittie, Ben DiNucci, and Central Florida transfer Bo Schneider as young, developmental prospects.

  1. Apparently, he's performed well at camps that he's been to and he's still without many P5 offers. He's a game manager with a mediocre arm that is old for his grade. He adds depth, but he's far from an impact player. Saying otherwise goes against the overwhelming evidence.

    1. There ya go. Discount a QB before he even starts his senior year of high school.

  2. I think people are struggling on the fence. The expectations have been raised and with social media and all the recruiting sites, people think they know more about recruiting than they actually do. Pitt is going to be a better place to play than it was. They wont be a top ten recruiting class until they have proven something. They will bring in kids that fit the system with some studs along the way and unlike some other schools who can recruit and can't coach, we have a coach who looks to this point to be able to get the best out of all his players. This class will probably be a lot like last years, where you have some decent players commit, but the big pieces will fall later in the process. The fact that we have Paris Ford on board already is pretty big. Everyone just needs to relax with scrutinizing kids who commit. Cam Bright just committed and doesn't have any stars, Darian Street will probably commit tomorrow and doesn't have a ton of major offers. Believe me, there is a reason that we offered a kid from Alabama. If the coaches didn't think he could be a real stud, they could have found a no star ILB from the Wpial.

  3. Have to agree with Anon 8:58p -- Pitt should be exclusively recruiting 5-star QB candidates. Like Pat Bostick.

    1. Phil Simms, Tom Brady Joe Montana, Billy Kilmer all field generals questionable arm strength, speed and size. It can work out OK. Tino Put up good numbers but not as good of a manager. Too many risks or trying to be a hero.
